Create a Schedule

Let’s begin by creating a schedule that outlines the following:

  • Work Shifts

  • Class Times

  • New Skillsets

  • Side Hustles

  • Personal Time

Every schedule should start with sleeping. For most people, 6-8 hours is plenty to be energized for the day. So, I recommend shutting down at midnight and waking up before 8am.

Once the morning arrives, add tasks to your schedule that build up your confidence and productiveness for the day. Exercising, reading a book, or learning a new skill are some of my personal favorites.

For those on a school schedule, block out time for studying, completing assignments, and other tasks that need to be completed. Be sure to include breaks, meal times, and time for relaxation and self-care. This should be done for work shifts as well, both remote and on-site jobs.

Lastly, take time to work on side hustles that you enjoy. Many individuals spend their personal time scrolling on TikTok, watching Netflix, or taking naps. You are different. You are better than that. Begin learning a new skill every day and work on something worth your time.

Once you have a schedule, stick to it as closely as possible.

Prioritize Your Tasks

Determine which tasks are most important and focus your energy on them first.

When you have a long to-do list, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure where to start. By prioritizing your tasks, you can identify the most important and urgent items and focus your energy on them first. This not only ensures that you complete the most critical tasks but also gives you a sense of accomplishment and momentum to tackle the remaining items on your list.

Here are my biggest tips to prioritizing tasks:

  1. Identify urgent vs. important tasks (Urgent tasks are those that need to be completed immediately, while important tasks are those that have a significant impact on our goals or objectives.)

  2. Use a priority matrix (The matrix is divided into four quadrants: urgent and important, important but not urgent, urgent but not important, and neither urgent nor important..)

  3. Set realistic goals (By setting realistic goals, we can avoid overcommitting ourselves and ensure that we're able to complete our most important tasks effectively.)

By prioritizing our tasks, we can reduce stress, avoid feeling overwhelmed, and achieve our goals more effectively.

Minimize Distractions

Distractions are everywhere. Smartphones, social media, instant messaging, all of that good stuff. Minimizing distractions is critical for productivity, focus, and overall well-being.

When we're constantly interrupted by notifications, emails, and other distractions, our productivity suffers. We lose focus and have a harder time completing tasks efficiently. By minimizing distractions, we can stay focused on the task at hand and complete our work more effectively.

So, let me show you my biggest tips to minimizing distractions:

  1. Turn off notifications

  2. Use apps to block distractions

  3. Create a distraction-free work environment

  4. Build discipline

Stay focused on the tasks at hand and become the person you’ve always wanted to be.

Make the Most of Your Downtime

We all have down time, stop saying you are always “busy”.

With that being said, it’s important to take that opportunity to learn new skills, recharge, or pursue hobbies and interests.

So how can you make the most of your downtime effectively? Here are a few tips:

  1. Unplug (disconnecting from technology and social media and focusing on activities that don't require screens or devices.)

  2. Plan ahead (identifying activities or tasks that you can do during your downtime and scheduling them in advance.)

  3. Try something new (learning a new language, trying a new recipe, or taking up a new hobby.)

Take Care of Yourself

Sometimes, we struggle with this; and that’s okay.

It can be easy to neglect self-care when you're busy with work, family, and other responsibilities, but prioritizing your own health and happiness is critical for living a fulfilling life.

So how can you take care of yourself effectively? Here are a few tips:

  1. Practice self-compassion (making time for activities that bring you joy and fulfillment, such as exercise, reading, or spending time with loved ones.)

  2. Seek support (being kind to yourself and giving yourself permission to make mistakes and learn from them.)

  3. Prioritize self-care (improve your ability to manage stress and other challenges and build resilience in the face of adversity.)
