Welcome to The Growth Innovator. Exclusive content where I showcase my systems to create content, write emails, and build products that sell in 2024.

Today’s Email:

In today’s email, you’ll get my basic system to identify your ICP. If you want the full system I use to land new clients each week, get it here.

Alright, Let’s Innovate:

Let’s say I haven’t posted any content yet and I have no idea how to determine who my Ideal Client Profile (ICP) is.

Here’s what I’d do if I was just starting:

Build Your Tribe w/ Content:

You won’t know who your ICP is until you start posting content.

So, build a strategy. If you missed my recent post on how to never run out of content ideas, read it here.

You can start posting two things:

  • What you’re passionate about.

  • What you’re knowledgable about.

To build your tribe (true fans), post:

  • Your bold opinions.

  • Personal stories.

This is how you’ll begin to build an audience that enjoys what you have to say. As you build your tribe, you’ll notice people have pain points (lots of them).

Find Pain Points:

To determine your ICP, you need to find the problems you’ll be solving in the future.

Here’s how you can find pain points:

  • Run polls in the comment sections of your posts.

  • Ask questions in your content.

  • Run a survey.

  • Send periodic DMs to your audience.

Here’s a recent poll that I ran:

I simply asked my audience if they were struggling with anything.

42% of responses were “difficulty figuring out what to post”. I now have a pain point that I can solve within my content.

Tie Pain to Solution:

Now that I have a pain point that almost half of my audience has, I can tie that into a solution.

Let’s say I build a free guide:

“How to Never Run Out of Content Ideas by Alex Colhoun”

My ICP would be creators who:

  • Aren’t posting consistently.

  • Don’t have a content strategy.

  • Have 0 purpose in their content.

I now know what to sell, how to sell it, and who to sell it to.

Innovative Action Plan:

Let’s build you an action plan so you can find your ICP this week:

  1. Post what you’re passionate and knowledgeable about.

  2. Start asking questions (look for pain points).

  3. Create a poll. Start a survey. Send DMs.

  4. Take the biggest pain your audience has and turn it into a product.

  5. Collect emails in return for the product (grow email list).

  6. Use an email list to sell your paid offers (once you have one).

If your content isn’t performing well:

  • Very little engagement.

  • Few new connections.

  • No new customers or leads.

  • Close to zero new followers.

You’re in the right place. I’ve put together a step-by-step blueprint for starting, growing, and scaling a profitable online business while cutting your working hours in half.
